Flu Hits Texas Hard, Houston Medical Clinics Urge Prompt Vaccinations

"With the increasing number of flu cases in Texas, Houston public health officials are urging residents to get vaccinated for influenza at a Houston medical clinic as soon as possible to avoid contracting the disease. The flu vaccine takes roughly two weeks before it allows the body to develop the necessary antibodies. This time span is roughly the amount of time everyone has before January, which is the peak period of flu season.

To help prevent the spread of the flu, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services advises people to wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water or apply an alcohol-based gel after handling unsterilized items. In addition, people are advised to avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth, as all three body parts serve as primary entry points for the influenza virus."
